Celcom

Celcom

Celcom is probably the boldest broadband provider in Malaysia, claiming that they are number one in Malaysia. It’s hard to deny that, since Celcom has coverage at over 71% of populated areas in Malaysia, quite a good speed at most areas, and has a huge variety of packages. However, remember that no company is perfect and yes, Celcom does have its own weaknesses too.

  • Connection Speed (Back to top)

Celcom’s connection speed is quite impressive and speedtests shows above 1Mbps in many places. But of course, this is not a certainty at your place of usage. Do summon our insider to test it at your place. And yes, Celcom does have some weak spots too.

Fair Usage Policy (Back to top)

Here’s the weakness of the self-proclaimed number one network in Malaysia. Celcom’s packages offer only a 5GB per month bandwidth allowance. After that, Celcom will throttle down your speed and you’ll have to cope with the forever loading pages. This is of course, definitely enough for users who don’t fancy P2P downloading or watching Youtube videos on a daily basis. So it might not be a weakness after all.

    Coverage (Back to top)

Celcom claims that they have 71% of populated areas in Malaysia covered. That’s fantastic, although it could be better. This makes Celcom the most mobile broadband available. Click here to check Celcom’s coverage areas.

    Contract Policy (Back to top)

Another great feature about Celcom broadband is that there is no minimum contract when you sign up with them. If you plan to end your subscription, just head to a Celcom centre and fill up the cancellation form there. However, if you choose the modem bundle package, then there is a minimum contract for 18 months. If you choose to terminate your subscription before that period, then you’ll have to pay RM350 to do so and unfortunately, you won’t even get to keep the modem. So if you plan to subscribe to Celcom and don’t mind forking out RM300+ in the beginning, we here at II recommend you to purchase your own modem.

Ease of Application (Back to top)

One advantage of Celcom’s application process is that all that you need to do is to hand a photocopy of your identification card to your dealer along with RM68 to RM250 and fill in some forms and you can receive your broadband card (USIM) and modem (if you choose to purchase it) on the spot. The bad news is that it’ll take a few hours to a day for your account to be activated. All in all, it’s still quite short and simple.

    Extra Stuff (Back to top)

Celcom broadband allows its users to go online at high levels too. However, this is a subjective matter and varies according to area.
