DiGi

DiGi

DiGi is the latest company to launch a broadband service based on HSDPA technology. We here at Internet Insider salute DiGi for being honest enough to reveal their likely connection speed on their website instead of just their peak speed. Plus, they even have direct comparison charts with other networks. That’s very gutsy of them to do so. Although DiGi’s coverage area is quite limited for now, as long as DiGi stays true and honest to their customers, they might truly be ‘Broadband Done Right’.

  • Connection Speed (Back to top)

It’s great that DiGi is honest enough to reveal their likely connection speed on their website. In short, the likely speed for the Discover and Explore packages is 700kbps and for the Extreme package, the likely speed is 2Mbps. However, since DiGi is so new in the broadband market, it’s hard to say how true these figures are and how much they vary from place to place.

Fair Usage Policy (Back to top)

Usually when you’ve hit the limit of the bandwidth allowance of your broadband service, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) will throttle down your connection speed drastically. However, with DiGi, once you’ve hit the limit, instead of throttling down your speed, they’ll instead charge you for the extra bandwidth used. This could be beneficial for those who can’t afford a slowdown and is willing to pay for the service. However, it could be costly for heavy downloaders who aren’t careful with their usage.

    Coverage (Back to top)

Since DiGi has just launched their broadband service, their 3G coverage is quite limited to some parts of the Klang Valley. However, they do have a wide coverage for EDGE. Click here to see their coverage.

    Contract Policy (Back to top)

Another sign of honesty which DiGi has shown is that they clearly state their contract policy on their website, and even includes the termination fees calculation formula. For their non-modem packages, there is no contract policy. However, for the modem bundle packages, there’s a 12 months contract. If you choose to terminate your subscription within that period, you must pay off the remaining months of the modem instalment payments.

    Extra Stuff (Back to top)

DiGi offers a discount to those who choose to use their own modem instead of getting one from DiGi. Thus, this is an extra benefit for those who already have their own modem.
